Here we are at the beginning of December, careening towards the end of the year. Every year right after the Thanksgiving weekend, I always feel like I am on a slippery slope crashing hopelessly into the new year, like a kid on a slip and slide about to end up in a pool of cold water. There is certainly not enough time left to finish all the goals I so enthusiastically wrote down in January. What to do?
But what if it was possible to complete the year with integrity and hope? What if we could forgive ourselves for what did not get done so far and stay on track with what COULD ACTUALLY GET DONE that WOULD feel satisfying and gratifying?
It is possible to complete the year with a blast of energy and intention to finish what can be done, while setting ourselves up for the New Year with a healthy dose of PLANNING.
Here are some of the steps to setting yourself up for success in the new year:
First Step: Celebrate Your Accomplishments of 2014!
You did get a lot done this year and you worked hard to build your business. You deserve some celebration and recognition.
Let’s see how far you’ve come. So grab a pen and paper and take a few minutes to really look back at your business in 2014.
- What were your goals?
- What were your biggest wins?
- What did you get accomplished?
- What is still not yet done or unfinished?
- What were your biggest learnings?
Identify the things that worked best, the things you enjoyed most, and include those things in your 2015 strategy. Make a list of all of the things that you did not enjoy, did not work so well, or that you completely avoided. Set an intention to either get some training to improve your skills in that area or decide to outsource that activity so you can still get it done and stop suffering about it.
Once you’ve done some reflecting on the year that was, you can make a plan to grow from there.
Second Step: Set Your Income Goal for 2015
Do you have a specific amount of income you would like to reach? Write it down. Or maybe you want to increase your income by 25% over last year? Figure out what that number actually is and write it down. Setting a specific income goal will be the biggest determining factor in manifesting your ideal income in this New Year. And committing goals to paper and reviewing them regularly gives you a 95% higher chance of achieving your desired outcomes.
Also, go back over the list of “things that are not yet done”. Maybe you did not launch that workshop you wanted or that online radio show. Take a moment to decide if you want to recommit to that goal for this coming year. The test is to check in with yourself and see if you are aligned in your heart, mind and body with that goal. If not, cross it off.
Third Step: Map Out Your Income Strategy
Now that you have written down the figure you are aiming for, you need to determine how you will reach that goal. How many new clients must you sign up? What new programs will you launch? What marketing efforts do you need to do in order to make that number a reality? Take the time now to plan all of your marketing events so that you will confidently generate the leads you need. Do you need to set up some live marketing events? Do you want to do more speaking next year? Do you need to hire some support to get things rolling? Write all of those down.
Determine What Support You Need
If you want your business to grow, you must invest in your business. That means looking at what entrepreneurial skills you need to acquire, what business training you might need, and what personal development would really boost your self-confidence, and decide to get that support for yourself. To truly make 2015 your year, you need to develop the skills to attract your ideal clients and generate new leads every couple of weeks.
More important is recognizing that you can’t do it alone. Hiring an admin support person even just 3-4 hours a week can be a major step forward and allow you to let go of some of the more annoying tasks. Hiring a virtual assistant a few hours a week can make a world of difference in your business life.
Most important is to make a goal to have this year be your best year ever, to have the most powerful impact and most abundant income in a way that is aligned with your highest self.
